Modest Mouse Blue Grass Tribute- Float On

Modest Mouse Blue Grass Covers »»»> Modest Mouse

These covers are performed by a wonderful group called Iron Horse; they have a couple of albums covering other bands’ songs (Metallica, the Shins, the Offspring, etc.), but I think the Modest Mouse covers work the best.

Papas Fritas- Sing About Me

This song was on the first mix cd i ever received.  The band’s name is awesome on its own, but the song is great too.  It reminds me of 97% of the girls I know.  If you are potentially insulted by this, then you’re probably in the 3% and therefore should not be insulted.

Last night I saw Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.  The short-haired girl in it sings on this song! She sounds way more British, probably because she’s British in real life.

Another reason to dislike Of Montreal

A few years ago when I was working for the fed gov in my cubicle, I was screwing around on the internet and decided to see if this band was touring.  This is before they became the hipster media darlings.  I clicked on the website, and then saw a link for the bands’ cover artist, David Barnes (brother of the lead singer).  I clicked the link and a box popped up saying a virus was detected.  I freaked out and quickly shut the window.  Then about 10 seconds later I got a call from I.T. saying they were notified that I had just been attacked from a virus.  I had to explain to them what I was doing.  I tried to ‘class it up’ by explaining that I was looking at an artist’s website, which was technically true, while leaving out the stuff about the band.  They didn’t really say anything.  Then a few minutes later I got called into my boss’ office. the IT people snitched! I gave him the same story and he was cool with it though.  People have gotten away with wayyyyyyyyy worse at the fed gov, so I wasn’t really sweating it, I was just a little embarrassed.

I haven’t heard this song before.  I’m blogging from NY and I don’t have my mp3’s all here so I just picked something randomly from the albums I downloaded recently.  I had a dream that I had to play with this band in concert.  I was handed a small hand percussion instrument and had to stand behind some violinists (real musicians), and all I could think about was how I don’t really like any of the band’s last 3 albums, but I really liked the 2 albums before that.  My friends and I saw these guys play an outdoor show at MSU in 2003.  I think they did a Beatles cover.

Skullcrusher’s song of the day

I didn’t really pick up on the origin of this phrase until I was driving back to Cleveland from New York a few days after taking the bar exam.  I don’t really think the song is about driving a truck but I could be wrong.
